Developed by Mark Krohn, MHP, CHP, the NORM/ TENORM Awareness course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the hazards associated with NORM/TENORM and related personnel protection practices. Course length is approximately one hour. Topics include:

  • Where to find NORM/TENORM in the workplace
  • The types of radiation associated with NORM/TENORM
  • The difference between radiation and contamination
  • Units of radiation and contamination measurement
  • The risk associated with NORM/TENORM as compared to other everyday hazards
  • Dose minimization (ALARA) practices
  • Ingestion and inhalation minimization practices
  • PPE requirements

The course also contains components on immediate actions regarding NORM/TENORM for:

The Awareness course meets the minimum training requirements in 29 CFR 1910.1096(i) and 10 CFR 19.12.

Pricing

  • Online Version: $89 US per learner
  • At Your Site: The cost of the course during weekday business hours for any number of students is $500 plus travel and expenses. Courses taught on weekends, Federal holidays, and at offshore locations are billed at $325 per student, with a minimum charge of 5 students ($1,625). If the instructor is required to drive to a client’s location to teach a course or drive to a heliport or dock for travel offshore, mileage is billed at $1.00 per mile. Travel time and stand-by time are billed at $75 per hour. Additional charges, should the instructor be required to fly to a land-based location in another State to teach the course, such as plane fare, hotels, rental cars, and FedExing of materials. are billed at cost + 20%. Note that FedEx charges for training materials (books, survey instruments, and other instructional materials) may exceed $600 in some cases. Meals and incidentals are billed at the Federal per diem rate for the area
