NORM/TENORM Surveys, Assessments, & Facility Audits
SC&A has provided radiological surveys, assessments, and facility audits since our
founding in 1981 for government and private industries worldwide. Our regulatory
compliance experts pride themselves on maintaining current expertise in State-specific
and federal NORM/TENORM regulations and are routinely called upon by private industry
to perform compliance audits.
Sample Projects
MARSSIM & MARLAP. SC&A provided primary technical support in the development of the Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site
Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) and the Multi-Agency Radiological Laboratory Analytical Protocols Manual (MARLAP) for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Department of Energy, and Department of Defense.
Site Characterization. SC&A characterized over 100 acres of a New Jersey site contaminated with residual radioactivity from ilmenite ore
using total gamma scanning techniques for surface profiling and downhole logging for vertical profiling. Surface measurements were correlated to GPS coordinates,
and contoured profile maps showing areas of elevated radioactivity were generated.
Final Status Survey. SC&A was contracted by BBL Environmental Services to design, implement, and assess the results of a final status
survey for a parcel of land in Hopewell, New Jersey. This work involved reviewing existing data characterizing radioactivity concentrations and designing,
implementing, and assessing data collection activities to support risk assessments, waste classification, and potential release of the site from radiological
controls.
Recycling & Waste Facility Reviews. For corporate, nonprofit, and government clients worldwide, SC&A conducts recycling and waste
facility reviews of manufacturers, medical waste facilities, municipal solid waste landfills, fuel-blending facilities, scrap processing and recycling plants,
waste-to-energy facilities, and oilfield waste transfer stations.
